SEO Scholars partners with shift_ed in Guilford County, North Carolina to expand our eight-year, tuition-free program.
Beginning with the 2022-23 academic year, SEO Scholars Guilford County moves to further advance our mission of closing academic and early career opportunity gaps within historically excluded communities by providing motivated public high school students in Guilford County schools with a challenging and engaging online, out of school academic program. Scholars will continue to experience asynchronous and synchronous learning of advisory, ELA, and math.
By providing students with online year-round supplemental academic classes, mentorship, experiential learning opportunities, and career exposure during high school, we help Scholars gain admissions to, and graduate from, a competitive four-year college, earning a Bachelor’s degree. While in college, our Scholars in Guilford County, N.C. receive the same array of support and services as Scholars who have graduated from SEO Scholars New York City and San Francisco.

SEO is partnering with shift_ed, a North Carolina nonprofit to deliver our programs to public high school students attending Guilford County Schools. shift_ed is dedicated to reaching students with the greatest need so that they find success in their diverse educational and career pathways.

The SEO Scholars Guilford County program includes:
- Online Learning: Three to four Saturdays per month during the academic year, Scholars will have an asynchronous and synchronous learning experience in the following courses: advisory, ELA, and math. These courses are taught by experienced SEO instructors who deliver a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum developed by experienced educators.
- Online Summer Academy: A five-week hybrid experience.
- Online Learning: For rising 10th and 11th graders, Scholars will continue to experience asynchronous and synchronous learning of advisory, ELA, and math for four weeks.
- In-person: One week of in-person community-building with SEO student advisors.
- Online SAT Strategy Course: Saturday Academy continues throughout the 11th grade, concluding with an SAT strategy course in the spring.
- Mentoring: Scholars work one-on-one with volunteer mentors during the 11th-grade year.
- Summer Enrichment Programs (EPs): Scholars participate in EPs that promote leadership and independence, including travel abroad, experiential programs, college courses, and professional internships, during the summer before 12th grade.
The Fall 2022 SEO Scholars Guilford County application is currently open. Candidate interviews will occur in January 2023, and the High School Class of 2026 cohort officially begins programming in late February 2023.
