Investment Bankers offer strategic financial advisory services, creating customized solutions and capital raising plans for the firm’s clients by using various tools of financial analysis.
The clients of investment bankers include private and publicly traded corporations, alternative investment firms, and in some instances, sovereign or municipal entities. Bankers work across industry-specific coverage teams or in transaction-oriented product roles such as capital markets financing groups or mergers & acquisitions.
The work environment of investment banking is characterized by longer-term quantitative projects accomplished in small teams, which traditionally are known for working long hours.
Private equity firms invest pooled assets ($$ multi-million to billion +) directly into private companies or buyout public companies with plans to take them private. Returns on these investments are generated through a variety of strategies including cash management, improving operational efficiency, repaying debt, increasing multiples, and more. After a period of time, the investing firms exit via an IPO, M&A transaction or other vehicle to realize its return.
