Investment Banking

Investment bankers, sometimes referred to as corporate finance professionals, are the consultants of investment banking. They are responsible for the management of client relationships, and as a result are well-versed in almost every aspect of their clients' businesses. Specific activities range from working with clients to determine financing needs to underwriting the sale of straight equity, equity-linked or debt securities to providing advice on mergers and acquisitions, foreign exchange, economic and market trends, and specific financial strategies such as corporate restructurings. An investment banking analyst produces pitch books, researches clients' industries, performs comparable company analyses and transaction data and builds financial models. Through this work, analysts hone their financial accounting and financial advisory skills. This position demands superior attention to detail, anticipation of problems, and strong problem solving skills. The investment banking analyst role is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to finance and business early in one's career, and to create a skill set that is a springboard to strategic management.
