Asset Management
Asset management is an ideal gateway to a career in finance, because it offers the opportunity to learn how to make investment decisions. Asset managers determine investment objectives and allocate the funds of high net worth individuals and institutional clients. Asset managers must employ an in-depth understanding of financial markets and investment products to construct investment strategies that meet clients’ expectations. A variety of skill sets can lead to success in asset management. Some roles are quantitative (knowledge of accounting and statistics is indispensable for modeling), some are qualitative (managing client relationships to determine the asset allocation and marketing investment products is a priority) and some are technical (an understanding of programming is helpful for developing new investment products). Interns in the
Asset Management Program must blend these skills in order to become experts in the markets, investment products and client service.
