Volunteer Leadership Opportunities
Alumni volunteer roles with SEO are intended to give you the opportunity to:
- Invest your time in future generations by directly guiding and inspiring the young people SEO serves.
- Support the ongoing professional and personal development of your fellow alumni.
- Help the organization sustain, strengthen and grow its core programs and networks.
- Harness and build your own leadership skills and experiences

Working with high school kids
- Mentor Scholars Program students in 11th and 12th grade a couple Saturdays per month for 2 years
- Mentor Scholars Program 9th or 10th graders on Friday or Saturday afternoons for a semester
- Tutor Scholars Program students after school 2 hours per week for 3 or more months
Working with college students/interns
- Mentor a Career Program intern during the summer
- Mentor an SEO-U (pipeline program) participant in the spring/summer
- Participate in training workshops at Career Program Orientation in May
- Speak on a career exploration panel at the College Scholars Winter Retreat in January
- Review resumes/cover letters or do mock interviews with College Scholars remotely
- Provide a "job shadowing" opportunity for College Scholars interested in your field
Working on programs or resources for fellow alumni
- Be a "Professional Development Captain" and with a small team coordinate panel discussions or other resources on a particular industry or career topic popular among alumni
- Mentor an SEO alum through the MBA application process
- Be available to advise alumni on graduate school or entering/advancing in a specific industry
- Co-coordinate programs to educate alumni on wealth creation and strategic philanthropy
- Help coordinate after-work networking socials for alumni
Supporting SEO's institutional advancement
- Become a fundraising "Advocate" to help build support and awareness of the Scholars Program's work to close the achievement gap and prepare students for college
- Co-chair your SEO class 5-year or 10-year anniversary, including class gift initiative
Helping with the new Alternative Investment initiative
- Interview Alternative Investment Fellowship applicants in the winter
- Help with training and mock interviews for selected Fellows during the year
- Help plan events for other alumni interested in the field
Working with a regional alumni chapter
- Plan an alumni networking social
- Coordinate a professional event or roundtable discussion
- Help rally local alumni to participate in Career Program recruiting & interviewing
- Coordinate a local community service project for alumni to do together
- Coordinate industry-focused mentoring matches for new alumni in your region
- Manage chapter communications to keep alumni connected
Engaging alumni at my company around SEO initiatives
In the traditional "Firm Captain" role at SEO partners where alumni are working:
- Help coordinate events/resources for SEO summer interns
- Act to raise awareness of SEO within the company
- Foster the alumni network and cultivate alumni involvement in SEO activities
